Or you could just move the engine up slightly and add all wheel drive to plant the power, plus the all wheel drive would add weight to the front which helps the balence.

I hope you realize that what i said its not the size of the engine, or how many cylinders you have to make more power. I have seen in-line six's put out 700 hp and 4 banger Hondas do 8-9 seconds in the quarter mile. and if your wondering a 5.0 L is a pretty small V8, somewhere in the low 300ci range. I do build Chevy mouse motors too. Overall, its the combination of power and weight > V10 would be impossible and heavy, power to weight is key.
