If you run a Diesel engine on striaght veggatable oil you with royaly fuck up your engine. It has glycerine in it(alchol sugar) and it will leave carbon deposits, which will coke the cylinders, scare the pistons, and bog up the fuel system. Eventually the engine will explode. It need a chemical process to turn it into Biodiesel. Thats what diesel engines can run on, not just veggy oil.

Check into the MAN M-procédé engine... runs on anything, we had them in the belgian army from '62. Only thing you had to watch was that the injectors got enough lubrication by the fuel and that the valves were turned in the correct angle, they changed the circulation of the air and the compression (not the ratio of course...) The whole idea was that it condensed onto the piston and then burned off in layers. Not high-power, but very relyable.
