http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=122304 "Brute strength and awkwardness" is a phrase that we heard a lot while growing up at Dad's race shop. He used it to describe a powerful yet ill-handling machine; or, more often, the driving technique of a hero driver attempting to cope with one. Both definitions rattled around in our brain as we traveled to Virginia International Raceway (VIR) to drive the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10. Title: 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe by Edmunds' Inside Line

i really think the viper DOES NOT get the respect it gets in movies. I feel that the viper is held back like in fast and furious tokyo drift. the viper should have destroyed that monte carlo • yankeefan025 on 05-Nov-08 GTR is a V6 right? so can't compare btw what will GM do with the 2010 VIPER ?? • emforty2 on 24-Oct-08 GM doesnt make the viper. • Mike117 on 17-Nov-08 teh viper will smoke the GTR on the track, period. And venomviper, BHP is measured at teh crank, not teh wheels. lol, noob • ReedRothchildx on 21-Oct-08 The vast majority of dyno's have set the GTR at 430hp at the wheels. As you know, Nissan engineers have said power loss is only at 10%, something no other company has done before. Even w/ 15%, it only has 507hp and mid 400's lbs of torque, which is a long way from the 600hp and 560lbs of torque of the Viper. The ACR is a race version of its base Viper, the latter which the GTR beats at every track. The ACR also has semislicks and is simply in another category than the base, grand touring Nissan. • doitlive08 on 08-Oct-08 lol, the gt-r is not grand touring! thats called a db9! the 10% power loss for an awd is incredible though, audi is somewhere around 23. the base viper doesnt have the sticky 140 tread rated tires on the gt-r, but its a safe bet with its straight line acceleration, slalom, and skidpad numbers it could beat the gt-r around most tracks too. • venomviper32 on 08-Oct-08 The base Viper lost to the GTR in the 4.2 mile VIR by 3 seconds. The GTR is grand touring racer, hence GTR. It isn't a CR as the Viper ACR or even the s2000 CR. CR= (C)lub (R)acer. The GTR will have its own racing version soon and if it has semi slicks like the ACR, then we're going to see a new Nurburgring record. • doitlive08 on 08-Oct-08 the vir car and driver does says 1.8, which is a different number than 3, and they did the exact same time at willow springs, which has corners. the gt-r might beat the acr on the ring because they have proven they go around it for a year with a high-boost car to make it look good. however, if dodge gears the viper to not hit the rev limiter in 2nd and 3rd virtually every corner and shorten 5th so itll go faster than 150 on the straight, that will be the king. • venomviper32 on 09-Oct-08 You're right, it's 1.8 not 3, sorry. Oh man, still with the high boost conspiracy huh? Man, it's up to you to prove it. The chief engineer said it was a fully stock GTR and all magazines say that as well. The VIR is a 4.2 mile course with similar road conditions as the 'ring. If the GTR beats the base Viper by 1.8 seconds there, then it's a reasonable assumption that in the 13 mile 'ring, it would also beat it. • doitlive08 on 09-Oct-08 I do remember car and driver/motor trend getting very different numbers, like 420-570 bhp, that may be a bit suprising, but car and drivers 3.3 0-60 in may and 4.1 in august prove there will be a difference when you build 2 turbos by hand. If the viper went to the ring, im guessing 7:36. It would take a LONG time to figure how to control the lightweight rwd with a lamorghini (well, kinda) developed truck engine. However, I still doubt a v spec would beat well geared acr. • venomviper32 on 09-Oct-08 |
